Motorcycle racing isn't the first sport people associate with veteran fitness programs, but this year's Red Bull Tennessee Knockout is making a deliberate push to change that. The 16th annual extreme enduro event, held August 28-30 at the Trials Training Center, has partnered with the veteran-led nonprofit Project Enduro for Vets to launch a new Top Veteran Racer Program (Cycle News).
What the program offers
Veterans who enter the Tennessee Knockout like any other competitor can separately check in with Project Enduro for Vets staff during on-site registration. The top-finishing veteran in each of the amateur A, B, C, and women's divisions receives a trophy and a $100 race grant, along with a grab bag from the organization (Cycle News).
Project Enduro for Vets, founded in 2024, is a 501(c)(3) built specifically around improving the mental and physical well-being of U.S. military veterans through off-road motorcycling (Cycle News). Extreme enduro in particular demands the kind of grit, problem-solving under fatigue, and small-team mentality that translates directly from military experience, which is likely why it's found such a receptive audience among veteran riders.
One of the toughest races on the calendar
The Tennessee Knockout has built a reputation over its 16-year history as one of the most physically demanding off-road races in the country, a rock-strewn, hill-climbing test that pushes even elite professional riders. Folding a veteran recognition program into an event with that kind of pedigree gives it weight beyond a nice gesture: it puts veteran riders on the same start line, facing the same terrain, as the sport's best.
Why it fits a bigger pattern
The Tennessee Knockout partnership is part of a broader trend Operation WarriorFit tracks closely, endurance sports of every kind, from obstacle course racing to triathlon to off-road motorsports, building dedicated lanes for veterans and first responders rather than treating them as an afterthought. Whether the format is a 5K, a HYROX floor, or a mountainside enduro course, the underlying idea is the same: physical challenge, done alongside a community that understands your background, has real value.
