Most races run as a lottery so access is fair, with the draw at a fixed, published time — 12 weeks before the event, at noon Eastern. It runs automatically and at random; no one on our team chooses who gets in. If a draw does not fill every spot, the event opens to first-come, first-served for the rest.
Every non-Spartan event that is 12 or more weeks away runs as a lottery, so access is fair. Any eligible member can enter until the draw. One entry per person per event, and entering early gives no advantage. (Spartan events, and events less than 12 weeks away, are first-come, first-served.)
The lottery draws automatically at 12:00 noon Eastern, exactly 12 weeks before the event date. The time is set in advance and shown on the event — no late entries can be added, by anyone.
A computer runs the draw — no staff member picks who gets in. Every eligible entry has an equal chance, and the timing of your entry does not change your odds. If an event gives a small boost to a group (for example, first-time participants), that is stated on the event before you enter.
Selected, waitlisted, and not-selected participants are all notified, and each draw is permanently recorded (how many entered, how many were selected, when it ran).
If the draw does not fill every spot, the event automatically opens to first-come, first-served for the remaining spots, so no donated entry goes to waste.
If an event fills and a selected participant later gives up their spot — or the race organizer offers more entries because they see the demand — the next person is drawn from the waitlist automatically. Registration closes 48 hours before the event (2 weeks before for Spartan events).
